Universal Audio makes some of the best plugins for mixing but require their own hardware to run. Their interfaces sound great and give access to some of the best plugins ever made along with additional DSP, taking a load off your computer. 2 birds, 1 stone.
In my opinion, the greatest value for the money when it comes to near-field monitors. Adams recently released a more budget line of monitors too that I bet are worth it.
Monitors placed directly on a desk will vibrate the desk, especially lower frequencies, skewing the sound and you won’t be able to mix accurately. Isolation pads are a good solution to the problem. These pads have layers of rubber, steel, and foam for better isolation.
